They say that the first rule of working from home is to never work in your pyjamas, but we think that’s only half true. Yes, staying in your jim-jams all day sounds like #goals, as is being comfortable while you’re at work, but you might find that rolling straight out of bed and into your at-home office chair can impact your productivity. It’s partly because you’re too cosy but mostly to do with the fact that your brain doesn’t fully wake up if you don’t follow your usual ‘getting ready for work’ routine particularly if you’re new to this whole WFH situation. The pyjamas are telling your brain that you’re still in bed even though you might’ve officially clocked on hours ago.
The obvious solution is to change out of your pyjamas completely, but where’s the fun in that? Given the current COVID-19 situation, it’s the little things in life that will keep us happy while we do our best to carry on with business from home. So if you want to wear your pyjamas all day, we say go for it. The exception though, is that you change out of the ones you slept in and put on a fresh pair. You’ll trick your brain into thinking you’ve gotten dressed for the day but you’ll still be as comfortable as you were only minutes ago. And as for those daily Zoom check-ins with your teammates? Always make sure your pjs have you fully covered, at least what’s visible on camera, and if not, simply slip on a blazer to smarten up.
